Burin Peninsula »
What was supposed to be ‘just another day’, turned out to be a deadly one when an earthquake, followed by a tsunami traveling at 78mph, hit the Burin Peninsula in Newfoundland. Twenty-seven people, ranging in age from seven months to eighty years, were drowned. One more person later died in 1933, due to injuries sustained from the tsunami. Another also died in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, due to a second, much smaller tsunami, generated by the same earthquake. Through all this though, many hero stories are still remembered and told today.
